yeah, i guess those people were right.

As an older mom, I've got nephews and nieces old enough to be Lovie's parents so I've been around the block a time or two with kids. Not that block, freak. I've done my fair share of babysitting- even lived with one nephew for four years to help raise him.

Along the way, the most popular thing I'd hear people say was definitely, "It's different when they're your own."

I didn't quite understand what they were talking about. Those people. Who made that comment.

I love my nephews and nieces. Hell, at one point in my angst teenage life, I could honestly say that I lived for them... their innocence, their curiosity, their purity. And the one nephew whom I lived with for four years??  He holds a very special place in my heart.  For always and ever, amen.

So when I heard people say that it would be different when my own came along, it baffled me. I mean, sure you love your kids like no other, but how different could it be to love one child more than another. They're children! They are pure and innocent and the essence of life! What's not to love? (And yes, I'm very well aware of the fact that there are plenty of "not" fans of children. Some, like my very own sister, are even parents. And some, like my very own sister, are pretty shitty at being parents, too. But I digress.)

Well. I guess I get it now. Actually, I got it the moment she was placed in my arms.

She's a fucking rock star in my eyes. In my heart and soul. A rock star.

With most of my babysitting duties, I would often get bored and find myself dozing off or counting down the seconds to when I could escape the mundane children's TV, books, games, mofo-stupid-ass Barbies.

But now? With her? Holy hell is it different!

I want nothing more than to get on the floor with her and just play! And watch her face as she finds humor in something or makes a new discovery.
I totally get it now. It really is different when they're your own.

But I bet you all agree that she IS a rock star.

Right?!?!

How could you not?!?

: )

  2. I totally agree!!!

I also think that "those people" who said, "You don't understand until you become a parent." are also 100% right! Your heart does not know worry, love, hope, dreams, etc. until you have a child of your own!

And of course Lovie is a rock star! SUCH a freakin' cute rock star! :)

  5. I love how she shines in that last picture!! Totally a rock star.

And yes, it's different. Everything they do is miraculous in my eyes...it's like they are the first kids ever to walk, talk, play, sing. Total rockstars!
