Two weeks from today, I'll officially be 40-something. WOAH.
**
I was chosen to host an American Girl doll party starring their Bitty Baby! All thanks to the awesomeness that is House Party. Lovie will be getting a new Bitty Baby doll from AG and we'll host a little tea party for her friends. If I don't get GIRLY MAMA points for this, I don't know what else I can do. Thank you House Party and American Girl Doll in advance! I'm floored at your generosity and I absolutely cannot wait to get all giggly girly with my girl and her little friends!
Note: House Party and American Girl have not asked me to blog about this opportunity though I'm sure they wouldn't object. If you haven't heard of or joined House Party, what are you waiting for?

I've been lacking in patience lately. I hate when this happens, but it does.
**
I'm tired of having to repeat things to the point of yelling before shit gets done. I know, I know: welcome to motherhood.
***
I'm also tired of shit getting done only after I threaten to take something away and/or start counting. I know she's just testing me and all, but why does it have to escalate to this every single time?
****
I've pretty much changed my hours at work, and it's working out nicely. I start half an hour later than I did and it's really helped move things along in the morning. Plus, the commute home doesn't seem to be as bad, oddly enough. And, Lovie's been happier when I pick her up because she has more time to play outside with her friends thanks to the later pick up. And morning drop offs are a breeze when I drop her off half hour later than I've been. Not sure what the dealio is with that, but it's been nice.
*****
I finally discovered some Facebook Garage Sale forums in the area and I can't stop looking at the listings. I have yet to offer some goods but I'm astounded at how fast this stuff moves. So much better than listing on Craigslist. Now I just need to start taking pictures and listing shit.

Lovie is no longer allowed to go to school with free hair (no pony tails, braids, etc). I'm sick and tired of having to spend an hour trying to clean sand or wood chips from her hair so girlfriend will just have to deal with me doing stuff to her hair every school day.
**
Any future pants purchased for Lovie, need to be in a regular 4 or 5T. No more Toddler clothes for her. She's just too tall.

I'm really digging Wordpress. When I was pregnant the first time in 2008, I started a blog on Wordpress. The pregnancy and my time on Wordpress didn't last long. I didn't find Wordpress compatible for me. It wasn't easy to find new blogs (maybe it just wasn't as easy as it is now?). And I knew several people on Blogger. I like my finallyMom blog here on Blogger. But I'm finding my voice on Wordpress. And I love it. I love that I can write more freely about stuff other than parenting and my dollface, Lovie. I love that I made the decision to separate the two. Still lots of writing here on finallyMom that may not pertain to parenting/Lovie, but now I can really focus on that at the other place. And Wordpress is just awesome. I love how you get comment notification on the dashboard and that you can reply right there and that if the commenter is on WP, they get notification of the reply. I love that they feature Freshly Pressed pieces from blogs. I love that I can so very easily search for new blogs. It's awesome. I won't move finallyMom there, but I really do love WP.
****
I also am loving Feedly as my new reader (in addition to the reader at WP). Bloglovin is okay but I haven't visited in a while. I don't like having to click on each blog to get the whole story. And on feedly, I don't have to do that; it's very much like the old google reader. The only issue I have with feedly is that it didn't move my blogs over. I had to input each new link which was kind of a pain in the ass. But now that I have most of what I read in my feedly, it's AWESOME.

It's not just the heat and humidity I hate, it's the fucking bugs. I hate bugs. Especially when they bite me and make my feet swell and leave strange markings on my body while creating itching itching itching... which results in a trip to Immediate Care for steroids and antibiotics.

Near 80-year-old people who aren't computer literate, should NOT have a Facebook account. I could strangle the cousin who signed my father up for a Facebook account. Not because he has access to my personal life or anything, but because he just doesn't comprehend that every fucking update or photo posted by one of his "friends" is not directed at him personally. Holy mother of all there is I just don't know how to explain this to him. I wouldn't really be bothered by this accept for the fact that I am the person he calls to complain/whine/interrogate.

I absolutely love my mornings with Lovie. I can remember a time not so long ago when I felt that every morning was a shitshow, that she was always such a pill because I had to wake her and who wants to be woken up when it's still dark out? But then I read somewhere that it's good for kids to wake up slowly. It's good to hold them and softly talk with them... or just hold them and rub their back. Basically just give them some intimate one on one time for just a few minutes before getting dressed and starting the mad rush of the day. I remember thinking that I didn't have time for this, that waking at 4:45 in the morning was the absolute earliest I could do. And I still get up then, but I also still cuddle with Lovie every single morning. I scoop her into my arms and we sit on the cheap IKEA Poang chair in her room and she burrows into me like she did when she was a newborn. Only now, of course, it's like holding onto 20 of newborn Lovie's. I rub her back and we talk. The cats come in and we laugh at them when they fight. We talk about whatever and then we try to "beat the clock" and get dressed as quickly as we can before heading into bed with Daddy to watch a few minutes of TV while I get dressed-- minutes before heading out the door. As long as we have those few minutes every morning, getting out the door is a breeze. And I just love that one on one time...When she looks me right in the eye with no TV, no Daddy, no toys. It's good for both of us to get moving in the morning.

I really really really really like the McDonald's egg white delight breakfast.

I booked a flight out to visit my cousin (whom I threw the virtual baby shower for) and her 9-day (today) old baby girl. I haven't been this excited about holding a baby since Lovie was born. I've always liked babies, but I never was too keen on holding them for too long before. Sure there's some nom-licious looking babies out there, but for the first time since Lovie was born, all I can do is think of holding and nomming on this baby girl. And I'll be able to do so in just two weeks.

TILTW: 5.25-5.31
(It's been too long since I've done one of these)
On Sleeping: My girl could quite possibly pull an all-nighter already if I allowed, and, especially if TV is involved. I'm astounded at her ability to watch TV and stay awake. That said, she needs to sleep. We all do. And I've come to terms that she currently only will sleep 9 hours at night. I might try to cut out the nap but I'm afraid. She really needs more than 9 hours of sleep in a day. Not because of anything other than her crappy attitude and demeanor when she doesn't get a good 11 hours in a full day. So I've accepted (relented) that I need to lay with her on school nights in order for her to fall asleep. It's not ideal, but if it gets her to sleep within an hour of bedtime opposed to the minimum two hours we've been dealing with for months, I give. And the thing is, there will come a time--probably sooner rather than later--when she won't even want me in the room with her anymore, let alone lying on the floor telling her stories and singing songs while we hold hands and both fall asleep. She's my baby. Always will be. But she's growing so fast so may as well relish in these peaceful times.
On Learning: Earlier last week, Lovie spelled out S T O P. When I asked her what she spelled (whilst sitting at a stop sign), she said, "Stop." (We're city folk so she's seen plenty of stop signs.) As we drove on, I asked her to spell "Stop" again and she did: "S.T.O.P." I asked her if she could spell her (real) name and she said no and continued to look out the window. She knows what letter her (real) name starts with but that's about it. Well, yesterday we left school and the skies opened up on us. Driving through a monsoon with a 3 year-old is fun times, oh yes it is. To keep myself calm and not get her fearful of the lightening striking near us, I started asking her to spell things again. She spelled Stop and then I asked her to spell her name. She started with the first letter but that's it (there are 7 letters in her real name, 3 syllables). I started spelling it in a sing-song way. Over and over. She started repeating it. And by the time we got home, she could spell her name. Also, by the time we got home, she could spell Mama and Dad. She's so proud of herself, as am I. She loves learning and proving that she's learning and that elates me. I got her this workbook for PreK kids and pulled it out when we got home. She started tracing the letters. This is SO the time I wish I could be at home with her more during the day. Being a working away from home mom won't stop me from doing these things with her, but I do wish there was more time for it. How thrilling it is to witness your child learn and grow at such a rapid speed. Bittersweet times.
On Growing: Lovie's 4T pants are starting to get short on her. They're way too big around her waist, especially now that she's in undies, but they're getting to be too short. Same with her 4T dresses. I'M NOT READY FOR SIZE 5 YET. I know it's just clothes but jeez kid, SLOW DOWN! Also, her feet. She was in a size 4 shoe forever. Then a 5 forever. Then a 6 forever. Then last year in the summer, she moved into a size 7. In the past two months, I've had to buy her new shoes- size 9!- and pack away a bunch of size 7 and 8's that she's barely worn, if at all! HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN SO FAST?!
On Potty Training: I was always told she'll get it when she was ready. TRUTH. This chica doesn't even need night-time pullups anymore! She even gets up in the middle of the night to pee and goes right back to sleep. LIKE A PERSON!
On Rules: This chica seems to thrive on rules. The other week we went to the grocery store and I experienced the worst tantrum by her ever. Like I was shaking by the end of it as she sat in the car screaming and thrashing about, climbing her way into my hatch and banging on the back window as she shrieked, "LET ME OUT!" All because the store didn't have a kid shopping cart or a large racecar cart for her. All because she either had to walk with me to get the few items we were going for or ride in a regular cart. All because I couldn't magically get what she wanted to appear at that moment. I gave her a couple warnings that if she (the whining and actual crying) didn't settle down, we would have to leave. By the third warning, I had to make good on my promise and that's when she lost her mind. (I believe the entire "episode" lasted about an hour- from the time we got to the store, I got her out, I got myself into the car after calming down, and we got home and she got herself calmed down enough to go in the house.) NOW when we go anywhere, like a store, there are rules that are discussed even before we get there. During the drive, we'll talk about the rules: where we're going, why we're going there, the behavior that will and will not be tolerated. Honest to god, I haven't had a problem since. Granted, it's only been a couple of weeks but now anytime we go somewhere she will ask about the Rules. And she knows... she knows... I will follow through.

Lovie’s dreams will be coming true on Mother’s Day when she
gets to dress in the pinkest, princessiest (I know it’s not a word), gaudiest,
ugliest pink frilly dance costume my eyes have ever seen. Like, my eyes burned
when I saw the dress. Blech. But she couldn’t be more excited about getting to
wear it... just not so sure she realizes she’ll be on a stage with an audience.
(I tried talking with her about this just last night and she was all, “What’s a
stage? What’s a recital?” I’m new to this whole Dance Mom thing so I’m not sure
if I’m supposed to be making her practice and really, if I am, I haven’t a clue
what. They read from Angelina Ballerina for a couple of minutes then do random dance
stuff or something at ballet on Saturdays—all this while I’m peering in through a tiny window when
other Dance Moms aren’t glued to it.)
My baby won’t stop growing. I’m not just now realizing this
but… A) she’s pretty much completely potty trained to the point that she even
goes by herself and is waking up dry, B) she’ll be moving into her big girl bed
as soon as daddy puts it together and the thought of my girl in a real bed and
not a crib with its side down almost makes me teary.
The invites for my BFF's baby shower went out end of last week and so far only one person isn't coming and that's because she'll be flying out to be with my cousin in person. I'm getting super excited about this shower, and thanks to Pinterest, have lots of decor and food ideas for the shower found on my partay ideas page, as well as my baby shower ideas page.
Last night I made the easiest, yummiest dinner: Schmarren.
It's like a thick pancake with fruit compote atop (so the juices can soak into the pancake-y part!). Probably doesn't look or sound yummy to most, but it's been a good 15 years since I've had it (Oma used to make it during lunch visits) and I was elated to find that it was so darn simple to make and just as good as I remembered.

* Saturday dance classes are going wonderfully well. I'm so glad I signed her up.
* Bedtimes are not going well. I introduced a chart the other night and thought that might help but I don't think it is. She just doesn't want to go to sleep. And she wants to play "I'm mad at you and will act like a brat until you give in and scoop me up into your arms to give me hugs and kisses and lay with me and tell me story after story until I fall asleep" every night. And when I try to interject the "I'm mad at you" part she just gets more upset and defiant. I think I might try extending her bedtime a half hour and see what that brings.

Lovie starts ballet tomorrow. Ballet. My little lovebug. In a leotard, tights, and of course, ballet slippers. She's so excited. Especially about the slippers. And the ballet.
Speaking of ballet slippers, don't get the ones sold at Target or Walmart with the tights and leotards they have set up to make it seem like it's all legit stuff needed for dance class. Those slippers are SLIPPERS. Like for the house. Get the kid real ballet slippers so people don't laugh at you both. Fortunately I made this realization before it was too late and ordered a pair of real ballet slippers from AllAboutDance (free shipping on all US orders, yo!).

I've really come to *like* my hair. It used to be that I hated how curly and frizzy my hair was (when I was a teen) but then I was able to grow it longer and longer and the length helped weigh down some of the curls. Then I discovered anti-frizz products (about 10-15 years ago) and I started to really like my hair. But then it started to gray. And gray. And after Lovie was born three years ago, it's like I just couldn't stop the gray. And now I'm at a point where a good portion of it is gray. I've been lamenting for years as to whether or not to color it and have really just come to terms with it and, actually, I really do like it. It's part of who I am. It's just hair, yes, but it's my hair. My curls. My frizz. My gray. (And Lovie says it's "black" so that helps me feel like maybe it's not as gray as I think it is.)
****
And, speaking of hair, I've discovered an awesome website on how to deal with Lovie's hair. ChocolateHairVanillaCare has so much information on how to handle her hair. From products to styles and more. I absolutely love it and because of the info on that site, I "banded" Lovie's hair Wednesday night and it's resulted in two days of super cute, funky styles that I think match Lovie's personality. And Lovie's been talking about wanting really long "mermaid" type hair so I figure the banding may help lengthen her hair when I take them out. I'm excited to see what it looks like tonight (or tomorrow) when I take the bands out!
