Been in funk.
And then this happened: MY KID IS ON THE HUFF POST.
It might have something to do with this (from nearly a year ago):
Maybe I'll try brushing her hair out again and seeing how much bigger it is these days for comparison. Nearly 3.5 years old and still haven't even trimmed her hair (though I did have to cut out a dreadlock a couple months back).

overheard in the car
Listening to some random Wiggles song in the car on the way
to school this morning, Lovie started talking about how silly something was
that the Wiggles were singing about and that they don’t fly. I wasn’t quite
sure who or what she was referring to, but I continued to listen to her banter:
“Birds fly. Bees fly.”
“Airplanes, too,” I added.
“Yeah. And peckers.”
“Wha?”
“Peckers fly, too.”
I looked at the road ahead of me wondering what the what was
going on when it hit me: “Woodpeckers?” I asked.
“Yeah, woodpeckers fly, too.”
“Uh huh,” I smiled.

"Mom" by Lovie
I was gonna do this and then I wasn't. I was gonna do it and then had her do it but then decided to post this instead. But then I saw and read this and laughed so hard I had to share mine after all.
So that's that and this is it... Lovie's portrait of ... Me:
I stood by her as she created this. She kept looking at me and saying, "Ok now for the ... ears!" or whatever it was she drew next. She didn't look at me for the face, eyes, hair, or nose because I guess those she knows by heart. The rest she looked at me and studied me for 2.2 seconds before adding to her masterpiece.
So here's the breakdown, per Lovie:
Truth of the matter is, she's got it about right: I'm a blob.

this is why i should've used the self checkout lane at the grocery store
“Is your hair naturally…”
“Yes,” I answered before the cashier finished her sentence, expecting her to be asking if it was naturally curly since I get asked that a lot.
“Yes,” I answered before the cashier finished her sentence, expecting her to be asking if it was naturally curly since I get asked that a lot.
“Gray?”
Did she just ask me if
my hair was naturally GRAY? Are you fucking kidding me? Is there someone behind
me?
I quickly toss my curls in a way that allows me to look
behind me for a moment to make sure nobody’s there. Nope, nobody but me.
“It’s so pretty,” she continued.
Really? My GRAY hair
is pretty? PRETTY? GRAY?
“Thanks,” I smiled and then admitted, “I thought you were
asking if it was naturally curly, but, yes the gray is natural, too.”
I mean, do people color
their hair gray ON PURPOSE (coolio celebs excluded, of course)?
“You’re very lucky. I’ve been coloring mine for 30 years now
to cover the gray.”
I smiled. I am lucky
but certainly not because of my GRAY hair.
“Yeah I stopped coloring mine when I got pregnant.”
“Oh are you pregnant now?” She looks down at my belly.
THIS CONVERSATION
KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER!!! WILL YOU PLEASE BE MY NEW BEE EF EF?!?
“Uh no. That was 3 years ago.”
“Oh well I love it. It almost looks frosted.”
FROSTED?!? WHO FROSTS
THEIR HAIR ANYMORE?!? HOW OLD DO YOU THINK I AM?!??
I stuff my debit card back into my wallet.
“I want to stop coloring mine but I’ve asked the colorist if
it will be full gray if I stop and she says yes. So I keep on coloring.”
I smile.
“But I cheat and take those touch up boxes and have my 18 year
old just add it to any gray she sees every coupla weeks.”
“Oh that’s a great idea! I’ll have to keep that in mind for
when my two and a half year old is able to do that. Then maybe I’ll start
coloring my hair.” Take that mother to 18
year old! My kid’s only 2.5! See, I’m really not that old after all!
“No don’t start coloring it. It’s not solid gray and it
really does look so nice.”
“Well, thanks. I’ve never had anyone tell me that they
actually LIKE my gray hair so I’ll take it.”
“I actually don’t LIKE gray hair,” she says giving me my
receipt. “But yours is so pretty because it’s not solid. If mine could look
like that I wouldn’t color it. Don’t start!”
Two weeks away from turning 40, guess what’s on my mind?
WHO’S GONNA WASH THAT GRAY RIGHT OUTTA MY HAIR?!?
Just kidding. I've grown to love my natural hair (until someone asks me if I'm Lovie's Grandmother).

Princess Cow Girl
Last night as Lovie and I played Grocery Store in her room for a few minutes before bed, I asked her what her favorite thing about Summer has been so far.
"Mmmm," she hummed, playing with her cash register. "Cawh Ga."
"What's your favorite thing about summer?" I asked again, not certain what the heck she was saying.
"Mmmm," she puts her finger to mouth to indicate she's thinking. "Cawh Ga!"
"Your favorite thing about summer is 'cawh ga''?"
"Nooo... Cawh. Gurl."
"Oh, COW GIRL?!"
"Yesss." Giggles.
"Your favorite thing about summer is Cow Girl?"
"Yes, cow girl. I wish I could ride a horse."
WHAT THE HELL IS SHE TALKING ABOUT?!
Then it dawned on me that I've been asking her a lot lately what she wanted to be for Halloween and proving her Two-and-a-half-ness, she answered my question about Summer as if I was asking about Halloween. I guess!
"You want to be a Cow Girl for Halloween?"
"Uh huh," she says smiling super big. "And I wish I could ride a horse!"
"Hm, well okay. But what about Summer? What's something that we've done that you really like? You know, like how we went to the zoo and saw the dolphins..."
"Oh dolphins! They dance and jump to the orange ball!"
"Yes, or how we went to the beach. Did you like going to the beach?"
"I like the beach and the sand with Mama and Daddy."
"So what was your favorite?"
"Mmmm..." finger goes up to her mouth. "I wish I could be a princess."
And that was the end of the conversation about Summer and cow girls and princesses.
So... I will take it upon myself to answer the question for her since she's my kid and I know what really was her favorite thing (so far) about this hellaciously hot summer: The Dolphin Show at the zoo.
And how do I know this was her favorite thing about the summer since she insisted it was being a Cow Girl? Because of this face:
That face is what transpired as we sat in the steaming hot arena waiting for the show to officially start... as she pointed to the dolphins that were right there in front of her...swimming, dancing, jumping.
Plus, she does talk about the dolphins swimming and dancing and jumping for the orange ball on occasion, too.
So that's what Lovie's favorite thing about this Summer has been.
And now, I guess I need to start looking for a Princessy Cow Girl costume for Halloween.

stop the bitchen
It’s snowing now and only 27 degrees.
Yesterday it was 55 and we wouldn’t freeze.
“Yes ma’am,” I answered, heading toward the kitchen.
Anything to stop all this maddening bitchen.
Yesterday it was 55 and we wouldn’t freeze.
But you wanted an orange and Cheerios.
Demanded as I drove, keeping me on my toes.
“Orange!” you shouted from the back seat.
“Cheerios!!” you chanted to your own beat.
So onward we drove home from work and school.
And into the house we went as my hand you pulled.
“Hi Little Cat,” you said to the whiney one.
“Hi Zoe,” you said to the fat cat weighing a ton.
I smiled as I tussled your curls.
"Orange?! CHEERIOS!!” you shrieked as you twirled.December 1, 2011
Holiday Card CHALLENGE
I created last year's entry before discovering Picnik. Oh lordie did I have fun creating it, but man did it take some time- it was done all on Paint by cutting and pasting, etc! Too time consuming for something that didn't even make the cut! Wah!
This year, I've been racking my brain trying to come up with an idea... do I go all cute and adorable (not hard with the subject I knew would be the center of the card) or what? And then the idea hit me!! I would turn an evil looking picture (you must admit the girl looks evil in the photo) into something I find pretty farking funny if I do say so myself. And I just did! So there!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS from Lovie!

at the end, it's the food that matters the most.
About 10 days ago, we piled into the car, drove for about 40 minutes, and got our pictures taken as a family at an amazingly beautiful arboretum. The word "stunning" doesn't do it justice (and neither do these pictures).
After our photo shoot, we walked around for a little bit but then had to sadly head out, driving the long way out (which was like a half hour drive!!) to take in even more beauty. We had to leave because we had a birthday party to go to for a 2 year old.
The party was being held at a little gym place for kids. This would be the third time Lovie would be going to the gym, the first time at this particular one. I refer to the gym as "gymnastics" when we're on our way.
Anyway, last night as Lovie ate her dinner, I was looking at the pamphlet the arboretum gave us and the following "conversation" took place between us (her-Lovie and me):
Her: Outside.
Me, looking at the side she can see: Yes, that's the outside. It's from the place we went to a couple weeks ago when we looked at all the trees. Remember all the pretty trees?
Her: Trees. Pitty trees. Imnastics!
Me: Yes!! We went to gymnastics afterward. So you remember seeing the trees and meeting [photog's name] and getting our pictures taken?
Her: YEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Me: you're so smart.
Her: Pitty trees, imnastics. 'Haap Birday to you.' (starts singing Happy Birthday song, hehe)
Me: Yes!! We went to gymnastics because it was [birthday boy's name] birthday!!
Her: party!
Me: yes, you remember the trees and getting our pictures taken and going to gymnastics for [birthday boy's name] birthday party! Good job! you're so smart!!
Her: possicle. geen possicle? peas Mama? (popsicle, green popsicle? please mama?)

night-night
Guess who now pretends to sleep? : )
A little while after getting home on Friday, Lovie looked at me and said "Nigh Nigh?" I looked at her and said, "Night-Night?! Already?"
It was only 5:30.
She smiled at me and laid down on the floor of the living room and, with her eyes open, started snoring.
"Oh, OK, go Night Night then," I said, quietly. "I'll be quiet."
She got up and smiled at me and continued watching Team Umizoomi.
Saturday at the park with my dad, Lovie at one point slid down a slide and laid down at the end of it.
"Night Night," I said.
She smiled and repeated, "Nigh Nigh" and started making the snoring noise. Haha. Then grandpa came over and covered her with a towel he brought along (it had been raining for days prior). She closed her eyes as she laid at the bottom of the slide and pretended to snore.
Later when we were home and after eating our late lunch, she yawned and I asked if she was tired and she said... you guessed it... "Nigh Nigh" and put her head on the high chair tray and snored.
"Shhhhh," I said to the H. "Baby's sleeping. We have to be quiet."
She continued to lay her head snoring.
Heh. She's such a funny little thing some times.
Now if only I can get her to do that at 5 in the morning on weekends when she wakes...

story time
The other day Lovie and I were sitting at my computer at home watching Wiggles videos on YouTube when my husband comes in (to the office) and asks if I've seen or heard about the video of the newest teen sensation who's video had like 26 million views because of how bad it is.
"You mean Justin Bieber?" I asked.
He chuckled and said, "No, this is a girl... Rebecca Black or something?"
I looked it up and found it and pressed the play button: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD2LRROpph0
We all sat there watching the video for a minute- Lovie on my lap, the husband to my right in his chair. Honestly, I didn't see anything wrong with the video and made a comment that money was spent making the video; it just wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The husband commented on the sound- the one note the girl used throughout.
Lovie just sat there looking at the computer when all of sudden she raised her hand and started waving it back and forth. The husband and I shot looks at each other like, "WTF?" and then started waving our hands back and forth, too, in support of our little lovebug.
That's when Lovie dropped her hand and started shaking her head back and forth No.
"You don't like it?" I asked, a little confused.
I let the video continue to play and Lovie raised her hand again and waved it back and forth- much like she does to the food on her tray when she's doesn't want anymore, shook her head side to side, and said, "No, no, no, no!"
The husband and I about died. The husband was SO proud at that moment.
I turned the video off and found a Wiggles video to bounce around to instead.
Do you think the song is that bad?

The Paper Mama Holiday Card Challenge 2010
So I'm totally new to this whole altering photos thing. I mean, I've added text to photos or gotten rid of a zit or ten on Photoshop (but that's at home and I'm very rarely on the computer when I'm home, remember?!) but nothing to the extent of altering it like I did for this challenge. But WHAT STINKIN' FUN! I'm so glad I found this challenge and The Paper Mama because of it.
Most of it was done in boring Paint but, considering that fact, I think it turned out pretty gosh darn OK if I do say so myself. Eek!
What do you think?
hehe, I'm *seriously* considering printing these and sending them out to some folk who I know would get a kick out of it... : D
